Countless technicians have terminated Cleerline SSF fiber with mechanical connectors. After all, SSF is one of the easiest-to-terminate fiber platforms in the industry. But what about fusion splicing? Is it possible to fusion splice SSF with its glass-encapsulated-by-polymer construction?
Yes, if you prepare the optical strand with Cleerline's Tri-Hole Fiber Strippers designed specifically for SSF.
Unlike basic fiber strippers that are used for cable jacket removal and general mechanical connector termination, the Cleerline SSF-TRIHOLEP advanced Tri-Hole Strippers specifically remove the patented SSF polymer coating that's integral to SSF fiber. Successful fusion splicing requires the removal of the SSF polymer, and failure to do so will compromise the splice.
The SSF-TRIHOLEP features three built-in grooves that quickly and easily remove outer cable jackets up to 3.0mm, inner strand buffers from 250µm to 900µm, and the inner SSF polymer at the 125µm level.
The Cleerline SSF-TRIHOLEP Fiber Strippers are compatible with all Cleerline SSF cables, including multimode and single-mode constructions.
